Deflection

Animation

Deflection is the bend measured at the end of a pair of slides when loaded in the open position.
This deflection is about 1% of the closed length for a pair of steel slides at their maximum extension, when they are subjected to the indicated loads from the data sheets, mounted on the major axis, under standard conditions. This deflection is directly in proportion to the load applied.

Disconnect option

Disconnection is an option on some types which allows you to remove the mobile part from the slide and then to insert it again in the same slide.
This option is necessary when installation is carried out in cramped premises where it would be hard to mount standard slides or for materials requiring maintenance.
This system is very technical and, therefore, very sensitive to mishandling. That is why Chambrelan prefers that fast hitching systems, such as studs, are used as often as possible.

Double extension

An extension towards the front or the back of the fixed parts can be adapted on some slide types. Though easy to set up on 2 part slides it needs a synchronising system on the 3 part slides. This makes the setting up of an internal locking system impossible.

End stop

End stop

Chambrelan slides are fitted with stops which limit the extension, both for opening and closing and which prevent the accidental disconnection of the drawer. There are metal stops or rubber stops.

On heavy load types (E1700 and over), Chambrelan uses shock absorbing spring end stops (see drawings). The stop shock during opening and closing is then considerably deadened.

The extension of a slide corresponds to the extension of the mobile part in comparison with the fixed part. The extension depends on the number of slide parts. It is measured in relation to the closed length.

There are three categories of extension :

  • Partial extension : 2/3 of the closed length
  • Total extension : totality of the closed length
  • Over extension : 150% of the closed length

The extension length can be adjusted to the conditions of use. This adjustment is made in relation to the length of the ball cage. The extension can thus be increased or reduced up to 10% of the catalogue extension. The extension length influences the carrying capacity. The larger the extension is, the more reduced the safe load is.
The extension usually operates on one side of the slide. Nonetheless, for some applications, it may be necessary to reach each side of the box. In this case, you will use double extension slides

Fitting

The various parts of the slides have manufacturing tolerances. The tolerances are offset by fitting different ball bearing diameters to ensure an easier movement. The standard fitting is suitable for most applications.

According to your needs, the slides can then be assembled very tightly, or, conversely, very loosely,if the application requires it, as is the case for mountings in hot enclosed spaces.

Length

For standard slides, the lengths in stock range from 150 mm to 2000 mm by 50 mm increments, depending on the slide models. The lengths kept in stock correspond to the most frequent orders. Other lengths are possible on request. Ask us for advice .

Load capacity

The load is the maximum effort which an extended pair of slides, mounted on the major axis can bear. The working loads given in this website include a high safety margin enabling the slides to operate in most applications.

The safe load depends on the extension, the type of mounting and the intensity of use. So an increased extension limits the safe load, whereas a reduced extension enables it to increase its performance.

When the slides are mounted on the minor axis, it is advisable to reduce the safe load by 40% for steel slides.

Lock

Lock

An optional locking device enables the slide to be held in the extreme position, either extended and/or closed. Simply activate the mobile part of the pawl to allow the drawer to fold back.

Three locking types are possible, i.e. :

     1. lock in the open position
     2. lock in the closed position
     3. lock in the open and closed positions


NB : in most uses, out of two slides, if only one is fitted with a lock, it is enough to block the drawer or the mobile part in the required position.

Manufacturing tolerances

Manufacturing tolerances / Thickness tolerances :
Our production manufacturing tolerances are, for cold drawn profiles, according to ISO 2768-cL with a straightness of 1mm/m and a twist of 1degree/m.
Machining is compliant to ISO 2768-mK standard.
These tolerances are taken up when fitting by the use of different diameter ball bearings. This results in a thickness tolerance of plus/ minus 0.6mm.

Material

Chambrelan makes its slide profiles by cold drawing out or machining in long lengths, generally 6 meters. This manufacturing method improves the quality of the steel used due to workhardening.
So, a cold drawn XC10 used in ranges like the RA5R offers the quality of semi hard steel on its ball tracks. On heavy duty products, Chambrelan uses semi-hard type XC35 steels, also workhardend. The balls are made of chromium (100C6) steel.

Modularity

Our position as a manufacturer enables us to offer you numerous adaptations of our products. In addition, these products can also be mounted together to obtain new functions or specific sizes. Slides can thus be assembled with each other or with guidance rails, or even sometimes with ball bearing runners in the slides.

Nitruration

Nitruration

The materials that we use to produce slides are carbon steels from types XC10 to XC 38. They suit most industrial applications.


However, in the case of high use such as on a car production line, or, in case of fast movement (more than 0.3 meters per second), we advise this surface treatment.


This treatment gives the material a surface hardness of about 35 HRC, a hardness equivalent to that of the ball bearings'. Resistance to wear is, thus, greatly improved. Obtained under vacuum, it penetrates the material better than salt bath treatments. In this way increased hardness is effective to a depth of almost 3 tenths of a millimeter .

Reinforced slides

Reinforced slides

We concentrate particulary on heavy duty slides. Among our products, we have developed a range of slides called "reinforced", which are progressively going to replace the standard slides.
This characteristic consists of the inclusion of additional reinforcing ball bearings within the body of the slides.This process cancells out the twisting of the beams when under load. This modification enables the load capacity to be greatly increased at the same time as it reduces the pull-out and push-in forces. This type of product is highly recommended for applications where the slide undergoes a torque or for mountings on the minor axis.

Surface treatment

Surface treatment

All Chambrelan slides come with a treatment against corrosion. The standard treatment, i.e. bichromated yellow zinc plating for steel slides and colourless anodisation for aluminium versions, suits most uses. The average endurance of bichromated zinc plating is 250 hours in salt spray.

Other or extra treatments can be carried out according to the application or to the environmental requirements.
